Making Children the Priority: Early Childhood Development in Priority Neighbourhoods

 


The Health Neighbourhoods initiative examines information for 50 Health Neighbourhoods in Durham Region to better understand patterns of health in our communities. The ultimate goal is to support strong, safe and equitable neighbourhoods that improve the health and well-being of all residents.

alPHa, through a strong and unified voice, advocates for public health policies, programs and services on behalf of member health units in Ontario.

Strategic Objectives

  • To assist local public health units in providing efficient and effective services that meet the needs of the people of Ontario.
  • To assist in establishing, through collaboration with other organizations, a unified and powerful voice for public health in Ontario which is consulted and respected.

 

Our Members
Membership in alPHa is open to the public health units in Ontario and their boards of health. These organizations are represented by board of health members, medical and associate medical officers of health, and affiliate members representing public health unit management (non-union).  Membership is subject to the Board of Directors' approval.

  • Organizational Members of alPHa (i.e. Public Health Units) – For a list of alPHa's members, please click here.

  • Sections – alPHa's membership is made up of two distinct sections:

    o Boards of Health Section – Current members of Ontario boards of health or regional health and social service committees that serve as a local board of health.  The BOH Section also includes former BOH members who have been given honourary membership status.

    o Council of Ontario Medical Officers of Health (known as COMOH, for short) – Medical and associate medical officers of health at Ontario public health units and former medical officers of health with emeritus status.

  • Affiliates – The following groups, which represent key areas of public health unit management and their professional disciplines, are affiliate members of alPHa.


    o Association of Ontario Public Health Business Administrators

    o Association of Public Health Epidemiologists in Ontario

    o Association of Supervisors of Public Health Inspectors of Ontario

    o Health Promotion Ontario

    o Ontario Association of Public Health Dentistry

    Ontario Association of Public Health Nursing Leaders

    o Ontario Dietitians in Public Health
