COMOH Section Representative, Central West Region
Azim Kasmani is Niagara Region’s Medical Officer of Health and Commissioner of Public Health and Emergency Services. He took on the role in May of 2023 after serving as Niagara’s Associate Medical Officer of Health since 2021.
Dr. Kasmani attended McMaster University for his undergraduate degree and medical school followed by Queen’s University for specialty training in Public Health and Preventive Medicine. He obtained a Master’s in Public Health and Health Promotion from Brunel University in London, England.
In his time with Niagara Region, Dr. Kasmani has led several key projects that have protected the health of our community, including a comprehensive evaluation of Public Health’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, a core services review of the Public Health Department, and he continues to focus on making sure Niagara is well equipped to handle the future health challenges and opportunities in our community.
