alPHa ASPHIO Representative - Ken Gorman.
Ken Gorman, B.Sc., CPHI(C), COHS, CIPC, MCMM has over 38 years of public health experience and is currently the Director, Environmental Health at Durham Region Health Department and has been since 2000. Ken has a B.Sc. from UofT, a CPHI(C) and certificates in Occupational Health & Safety, Infection Prevention & Control and a Masters Certificate in Municipal Management. Ken was a member of the Provincial Technical Review Committee which developed the 2008 OPHS and Protocols, an alPHa Board of Director member for over 8 years, former President of ASPHIO and a founding member of CIPHI’s Council of Professional Experience (CoPE) developing the CPC Program, Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
He has experience in emergency response, managing the public health response to several emergencies. He was a member of teams that prepared the MOHLTC Radiation Health Response Plan, the CPCHE “Advancing Environmental Health in Child Care Settings” and lead the development of the ASPHIO “Guidelines for Farmers Markets and Special Events”. Ken is a recipient of a DSA from alPHa and a CIPHI Award of Merit. He continues to be a strong advocate for ongoing professional development of PHIs. Ken continues to participate in many provincial stakeholder committees and workgroups on a variety of public health and emergency preparedness issues.
