Do One Thing  On May 27-28, 2014 the Northwestern Health Unit will be holding the Do One Thing conference at the Whitecap Pavilion in Kenora. The conference will bring together the most influential minds in Northwestern Ontario. Participants will learn, network, and engage in discussions about improving the health of residents through the themes of community, workplace, and partnerships. Legislation to ban U-18 from using tanning beds passed

The Ontario government has passed Bill 30, The Skin Cancer Prevention Act into law. The legislation

  • Prohibits the sale of tanning services to youth under 18
  • Requires tanning bed operators to request identification from anyone who appears under 25
  • Bans advertising and marketing of tanning services targeted at youth under 18
  • Requires tanning bed operators to post signs about the ban and the health risks associated with the use of tanning beds (content to be determined via regulation)

This legislation satisfies part of the operative clause of alPHa Resolution A06-3
