Public Health Links

Please follow the links below to other public health related partners and Web sites. In addition to providing the latest information on public health issues and governance, they contain key information on public health renewal. Several initiatives are currently underway to implement recommendations made in the wake of public health crises such as SARS and Walkerton to reform and revitalize the system that is in place to protect and promote health. Regular visits to these sites will assist you in keeping up to date on and providing input to these initiatives, as well as providing a picture of how they are interrelated.

Public Health Research and Education and Development (PHRED) Program
This program exists to provide evidence to support effective and efficient public health practice and improve accountability in public health practice, increase capacity within the public health system by providing leadership in the education of future public health professionals and  provide leadership in research and education through strategic partnerships. The PHRED health units are Hamilton, Middlesex - London, Sudbury, Kingston and Ottawa.

The Ontario Public Health Association (OPHA) is a voluntary, charitable, non-profit association. OPHA is an organization of individuals and Constituent Associations from various sectors and disciplines that have an interest in improving the health of the people of Ontario.

The Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA) is a national, independent, not-for-profit, voluntary association representing public health in Canada with links to the international public health community. CPHA's members believe in universal and equitable access to the basic conditions which are necessary to achieve health for all Canadians.

Public Health Agency of Canada
This is the home page of Canada's new Public Health Agency (PHAC). A part of the public service, PHAC coordinates federal efforts in identifying and reducing public health risks and threats and supports national readiness to respond to health crises. 

Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care
Ministry home page with up-to-date information and announcements about Ontario's health system. As there is currently a prominent focus on public health, there is plenty of useful information, including direct links to the various commissioned reports (e.g. Walker and Campbell), information on West Nile virus and influenza.
